You seen a fat lion recently?
There has been a lot of discussion in the past few years, especially after the explosion of the Atkins diet, regarding carbohydrates and the benefits of not eating them.
The argument is that man has essentially been the same genetic organism for the last 100,000 years, maybe more, and the lifestyle our caveman ancestors lived was far different from the one we live today. Not only are we more sedentary in our daily lives, sitting at computer screens and on the sofa at night, but our diet has changed dramatically.
Cavemen essentially hunted for food and gathered berries. Their diet was very high in fat, high in protein and low in carbohydrates. Their bodies would burn fat as the main fuel source. Their days were spent foraging at a slow steady rate with some hunting thrown in for good measure. This hunting was pretty much small bursts of very high activity.
In the late 19th century and going on into the 20th century man was refining foods to the point where breads, pastas, rices etc, were becoming common place. Ready made meals appeared and fast food boomed. Diets were essentially high in carbohydrates and low in fat. Obesity levels rocketed and diabetes became rampant. The evidence for low fat high carbohydrate diets was never there but they became very popular. Body fat and food fat was considered, incorrectly, to be the same thing.
History suggests that the body is in fact designed to fuel itself with fat and a growing body of evidence is beginning to support this.
So where does the fat lion come into it?
Well let us take our lead on diet from the animal kingdom. Ignoring animals that eat both meat and vegetation just examine the results of carnivorous and herbivorous diets. What do you see? Yes there are slim and slender herbivores but they are typically in areas where food is scarce. In general though a cow is, well, fat, as is your typical pig.
Now check out your carnivores. The cheetah, puma, panther etc. Their diets and lifestyles are essentially those of our ancestors, minus the berry picking. Hunt, eat, rest.
Is nature trying to tell us something about diets and the need for Skin Tightening ? Ask yourself... have you seen a fat lion recently?
