Chairman of my body
Let us for a moment ignore weight loss and think of our bodies as a business. We are the chairmen of the company when it comes to our bodies. We decide what activities take place and what food we eat. The food we intake is our fuel to run our companies on.
Now lets have a board meeting. We invite the main directors to the meeting and they are the directors in charge of diet, muscles, skeletons, fat and organs.
Our diet director informs us that we are going to be getting 20% less energy for the foreseeable future because we are now trying to lose weight and are on a diet. It is like the credit crunch but made up of biscuits and yogurt.
As the chairman we know that our energy is used to drive our muscles, maintain our skeleton and organs and keep up our fat stores which we need in case of famine.
Well our directors of organs and skeleton tell us straight that they can’t make any cuts without endangering the whole company. Fair enough then we need a different approach. They are excused from the meeting.
Now you look down at your spreadsheet showing fat and muscle energy uses. You note that muscle uses 11% more energy than fat. Your muscles are your engines and currently they are too darned big! So you tell the director in charge to start burning off muscle and reduce their energy requirement.
This though leads you to maintaining that stubborn body fat and looking ’skinny-fat’.
As the chairman you realise that the only way to get fat burnt off is to get the muscles working at capacity so that the company can’t afford to lose any. You slip the director concerned a note telling him to get a gym program in place and upon doing this the only area where cuts can be made are in the fat stores which will be burned to supply the additional energy required due to the diet deficit .
Fantastic days work there. You have reduced the energy load in the company and maximized fat burning.
Time to head home for dinner perhaps for some healthy, delicious chicken recipes!
